Network Wireless

Wireless networks are as the name would suggest a network without wires. Traditional methods of networking PC's together using wired LANs (Local Area Network, usually in 1 room or building) and WANs (Wide Area Network, which are used to connect 2 geographically separate buildings into the same network). Wired networks are great if your in a fairly small space and don't mind running cables between network points, they're cheap and easy to set up.
However, this is where Wireless steps in, no need to run wires all over the place, simply plug in your wireless adapter, get it to connect to the router or WiFi network point and off you go. A word of caution though, there are dependencies on how far you a wireless network can operate.
Firstly dependent on what sort of equipment your using. Hardware is based on a standard called 802.11, and there have been subsequent revisions of this standard (click for more information, opens in a new window) 802.11 Standards Wikipedia entry
Secondly, walls, microwaves, mobile phones, cordless digital phones can all impede the WiFi range. Pleases don't think this will limit the range, but they are some factors if you loose the signal between router/ access point and adapter.
