Floppy Disk Drives, been with us for years, and will probably be with us for years to come. In our new PC Builds we still insist in using them just in case the customer needs to use a floppy disk. You have a choice of 2 floppy disk drivers, either internal or external. The Internal connections to a connector on your mother board, and the external ones tend to connect via USB.

Spot of History
The ubiquitous floppy disk drive. Invented by Alan Shugart working for IBM in 1967 and still going strong. As other storage mediums become cheaper and cheaper such as CD's, DVD's and USB flash drive their decline may have been speeded up. However, they still have a wide range of uses after all have you tried to actually use a CD-ROM in DOS? (I fully expect a barrage of e-mails saying it's a doddle to use CD's in DOS and other command line apps) and they are still used for installing SATA drives. Long live the Floppy Disk Drive, long may it continue.
