We heard the music from the home Hi-Fi, and we wanted to stick them in our new fangled computers. We wanted to replace our LP-ROM drives with CD-ROM's. When they now humble CD-ROM appeared on the scene it allowed us to see, hear and interact with the world by being able to listen to music at our desk's, or by being able to install interactive software such as Encyclopaedias. Plus for more mundane uses such as installing office applications, instead of feeding endless 3.5" floppy disks into the PC you could insert 1 single disk that contained all the things you needed.
