ICY BOX 1.8" USB2.0 ZIF PATA HD IB-181U-Z Caddy. OK troops, something a little different here. Yet again those smart and clever chappies at Icy Box have come up with a "ZIF zero insertion force" caddy. Astounding, don't know how they do it.
Let me try and explain it. If you have ever fitted a processor into a motherboard you'll know that the processor drops into the little pin slots without any force, you then have to pull a lever to lock it in place. This caddy works exactly the same way, slide the Hard Drive connection pins into the caddy housing. Once in place, close the lever to lock it in place. That's it.
All this and it looks like a hip flask too. Get your colleagues to think you take a little nip on occasion, when your actually retrieving data, then again if you work in a distillery you might be retrieving pictures of a bottle of nice malt.

We've been getting lots of queries regarding the Toshiba MK ZIF series of hard drives.

****-
Fits Toshiba 1.8in drives
Reviewed by Julian Field from Southampton, United Kingdom

I used this caddy to hold a 1.8in Toshiba 100Gb drive, a MK1011GAH disk. The connector on the drive looks like it takes a thin ribbon cable plugged straight in, no "connector" on the cable at all.
It works perfectly.
The caddy comes with a hard-wired USB cable and connector which is about 1.5in long (it folds into the case so its total length is the width of the caddy). This was a bit too short for my application (sticking the drive to the bottom of an Asus EEE laptop), but it fits reasonably well.
The caddy has activity lights on it, and works very well.

But all in all an excellently made product, which is well worth the money!
