Canon Pixma printers primarily use two technologies to make ink appear on paper. Canon cartridges either use Pigment based ink or Dye based ink. Canon original black cartridges normally use pigment based ink, and colour cartridges normally use dye based ink. Compatible and remanufactured cartridges usually use dye based ink in both black and colour.
