A Bluetooth device offers wireless connectivity between Blue tooth enabled devices such as Mobile Phones, PDA's, Laptops and printers and your PC. There are different classes of blue tooth; the classes mainly define the connection speed of the device. Such as Class 1 has a range of up to 100 meters and class 2 has a range of up to 20 meters. Personally my mobile phone is barely 20 cm's away from my dongle, so make little or no difference to which class I need. Similarly the same with a Bluetooth Headset, printer, keyboard, mouse etc etc. The availability of wireless bluetooth devices is expanding rapidly; the ability to use a single access point to connect your peripherals is appealing it has to be said.

Bluetooth technology and name comes from our Scandeweigian cousins. The name apparently comes from Harald Blåtand who was King of Denmark from approximately A.D. 940 to 985 and was known for teeth of a bluish hue resulting from his fondness for blueberries. (This is probably folklore, but makes it interesting all the same) if you'd like to see a raging argument about the folklore naming of the said technology, please have a look at my blog.
